FAQs

What is the mission of The 139 Collective?

The mission of The 139 Collective is threefold. We aim to:

  1. Connect Christian parents of children with disabilities

  2. Provide support to these parents, particularly in times of crisis

  3. Inspire these parents to thrive in their faith, parenting and witness to others

Where is the group based?

The 139 Collective is an Australian based group with members located throughout the country.

Why is the group called The 139 Collective?

The group takes its name from Psalm 139, particularly verses 13 and 14 which says, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” We want to affirm the truth that all people are known by God and fearfully and wonderfully created by Him.

Why does the group use the term “disability”?

Every parent has a unique perspective on their family’s experiences. Some prefer to use the language of additional needs, special needs, or neurodiverse. We want to be an inclusive space. Please substitute the term “disability” in your mind for whatever you prefer. We have primarily been guided by the advice put out by the Australian Federation of Disability Organisations who have a helpful language guide that can be accessed here.
